Karndean Floor Cleaning - Care and Maintenance
Karndean flooring is a great choice for easy cleaning and maintenance and for the look of expensive natural materials. Made from virgin or recycled PVC and plasticizers, it has the ability to provide a beautiful alternative to stone, wood, ceramic, glass and even marble.
Cleaning Karndean Flooring
After initial installation, a Karndean floor should not be washed for 24 hours.
Regular cleaning requires sweeping with a soft broom to remove and dirt or dust from the floor that could potentially scratch the finish.
To wash the floor, use I part Karndean cleaner to 3 parts cold water, and damp mop; never wet mop or flood the floor.
Maintaining Karndean Flooring
In addition to regular sweeping and damp mopping, there are steps to take to keep the floor looking beautiful and new.
When white spots appear due to water drops that have not been cleaned up right away, use Karndean Basic Stripper to remove the Dim Glow layer. Remove the residue with clean water and allow it to dry. At this point reapply Dim Glow to the floor. This method is also useful to remove small scratches.
If black scuff marks appear, dilute a little Basic Stripper in some water and use a non-abrasive cloth to remove the mark. Once it has been rinsed and dried, apply a small amount of Dim Glow.
Dim Glow also helps to prevent against some stains, but it important to clean up any spills immediately.
When installed properly Karndean flooring maintenance is fairly simple, and there should not be a problem with seepage into cracks between tiles (because the seams should be tight and therefore have no gaps or cracks). If gaps occur, consult a Karndean flooring specialist for advice on repairing the problem.
Karndean Floor Maintenance Do's
Regularly clean and damp mop the floor with Karndean products to keep the floor looking new.
Only use products specifically made for Karndean flooring to avoid damaging the finish or adhesive.
Use mats in entranceways to minimize the amount of dirt and dust and potential scratching that can result from a dirty floor.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how often to strip and reapply Dim Glow.
Clean up spills immediately to avoid permanent staining.
Karndean flooring can fade, so it is best to protect it from direct sunlight with the use of curtains or blinds.
Use floor protectors under the legs of furniture to prevent permanent indents and marks. Always lift furniture when moving it to avoid scratching the floor.
Karndean Floor Maintenance Dont's
Improper Karndean flooring maintenance can result in a floor that wears out and loses its beauty prematurely.
Never use chemical cleaners or anything other than Karndean products to clean.
Do not use rubber backed mats as they will leave permanent stains on the floor.
Do not allow lighted flames near the floor as sparks and such will leave burn marks.
When cleaning the floor do not flood it and clean up any wet areas right away.
