Amtico Floor Cleaning - Care and Maintenance
Amtico flooring is relatively easy to maintain. Amtico tiles range in size from square tiles to planks, made from compressed resin, plasticizers and stabilizers. Amtico tiles are manufactured to look identical to the beautiful, natural material they are intended to be a substitute for, but with easier maintenance.
In order to ensure that this type of flooring lasts and looks as beautiful as it is intended, it is important to follow Amtico maintenance suggestions from the manufacturer.
Clean Amtico Flooring
Cleaning Amtico flooring is a relatively easy task. In order to remove dirt, simply sweep with a soft brush, or vacuum the floor. Amtico Floor Cleaner should be used approximately once a week with a damp mop to clean the surface.
Amtico flooring can be slippery when wet, so it is important to clean up any spills of liquid or food right away. To do this properly, clean up the spill with a paper towel, then wipe or mop with Amtico’s cleaner/maintainer. Rinse and then let the area dry.
After the initial installation, an Amtico floor should not be washed for at least 48 hours.
Maintaining Amtico Flooring
In order to protect Amtico flooring, and to keep it looking beautiful, some maintenance should be done from time to time.
For those who desire a shine on their floor, Amtico Floor Dressing will need to properly applied, which also means that it will need to be stripped and reapplied periodically.
If black scuff marks appear on the floor, use properly moistened and diluted Amtico Floor Cleaner on a cloth to remove the scuff. If this is not sufficient, a nylon (non-abrasive) pad can be used.
Scratches on the surface of the floor can be reduced simply by cleaning and applying Amtico Floor Dressing to the surface.
To remove stains, dilute Amtico International Floor Cleaner and wash the area. If it is a tough stain, use a non-abrasive nylon pad, and then rub what’s left with turpentine. After half an hour, simply rinse with water.
The Do's and Dont's for Maintaining and Cleaning for Amtico
Proper Amtico maintenance and care will help to ensure a long-lasting beautiful floor. However, there are certain things that should be avoided to extend the life and look of an Amtico floor.
Proper Amtico maintenance also begins with proper installation. When installing Amtico flooring, it is vital to condition the tiles, that is, keep the tiles to the area they will be installed (at the proper temperature as suggested by the manufacturer) for at least 24 hours prior to installation, and for 24 hours after. Always lay the tiles flat, never on their side before installing. If leveling compound needs to be used, be sure it is applied before the plywood is installed.
Mats with rubber backing can sometimes leave permanent black stains on Amtico flooring so it is best to avoid these altogether.
Avoid installing Amtico flooring where the temperature will be higher than 27 degrees Celsius, as the heat may eventually discolour the flooring.
It is important to use felt pads under the legs of tables and chairs to avoid scratching the floor. To avoid indents from heavy furniture, use felt pads or wide bearing cups. Permanent indents to the subfloor can result otherwise.
Amtico maintenance is relatively easy and well worth the effort to help keep Amtico flooring looking beautiful.
